man accused of stiffing cabdrivers Bangor Bangor Daily News BDN Maine
BANGOR, Maine A local woman, upset over the cost of a taxi ride, decided she no longer wanted to pay the driver when she reached her destination on Saturday, according to Bangor police Sgt. Paul Edwards.
Joanna Davis, 46, became argumentative after the cabdriver told her the fare would be $10.55. When they arrived at her destination, 261 Griffin Road, and the driver realized Davis was unwilling to pay, he called police. At that point, Edwards said, the officer decided to search Davis and found that she was in possession of three white tablets. Decker was able to identify one pill as ibuprofen, but when the officer could not identify the other two tablets he charged Davis with unlawful possession of Schedule Z drugs.
The search also revealed a pair of brass knuckles in the woman's purse, prompting Decker to charge her with carrying a concealed weapon in addition to theft of services for failure to pay her cab fare.
Davis was arrested and taken to the Penobscot County Jail. She since has been released, according to Edwards. (Jamison Cocklin, BDN)
BANGOR, Maine A local man who was arrested late Friday night after racking up a $40 cab fare without the means to pay for it remained behind bars late Monday.
Thomas Joseph Hart, 71, reportedly began his taxi ride on Walter Street and from there was taken to several area motels, Bangor police Sgt. Larry Weber said Monday, citing an arrest report.
Weber said Hart told a Bangor police officer that he had been evicted earlier that day and that his niece would cover the cab fare. He did not, however, have her telephone number. Hart was arrested on a charge of theft of services, Weber said. (Dawn Gagnon, BDN)
